SYNOPSIS

The term complicated migraine is used when the neurologic deficits in classic migraine are intense or alarmingly prolonged. Its manifestations are felt secondary to a vasoregulatory disorder of cerebral vessels. The calcium channel antagonists have been found efficacious in blocking cerebral vasospasm. A young girl presented with severe headache, aphasia and clinical symptoms suggesting complicated migraine. Her neurologic deficit cleared immediately after the administration of sublingual nifedipine. Nifedipine may prove useful in treatment of complicated migraine.
