Dear Readers: The authors (Flicker L, MacInnis RJ, Stein MS, Scherer SC, Mead KE, Nowson CA, Thomas J, Lowndes C, Hopper JL, and Wark JD) of the article, “Should Older People in Residential Care Receive Vitamin D to Prevent Falls? Results of a Randomized Trial”, published in J Am Geriatr Soc 2005; 53:1881–1888, report an error in Figure 1 flowchart on page 1883.

The authors report that recently they have been asked to participate in individual patient database meta-analysis and in the course of providing their data they discovered the numbers in the final boxes for the placebo and vitamin D groups have been reversed. The analyses were done on the correct results and thus the odds ratio for mortality associated with vitamin D supplements was 1.20, 95% CI 0.84–1.71. The amended Figure 1, below, has the correct numbers for the last box.
