The data reported here are from the author's doctoral dissertation (Cartwright, 1970), in which 58 female medical students were studied intensively through personal interview and psychological tests. This study was funded by a U.S. Public Health Predoctoral Fellowship and was conducted under the auspices of the Institute of Personality Assessment and Research, Berkeley, and the University of California, San Francisco.
