He retired as 23rd commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard in 2010 and served as national incident commander for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He previously served as principal federal offi cial for the response to Hurricane Katrina. He holds a master of public administration from George Washington University and a master of science from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is currently senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton.
