Some patients are dissatisfied with the pain relief they receive in the immediate postoperative period (Donovan, 1990). Some researchers believe that non-pharmacologic nursing interventions, used in combination with analgesics, can help decrease pain. The purpose of this study was to document how frequently non-pharmacologic methods are being implemented and who is responsible for encouraging patients to use these methods.
