Abstract

William Godwin (1756–1836) was a radical philosopher and novelist whose fame rests largely on his Enquiry Concerning Political Justice (1793) and Caleb Williams (1794). Married to Mary Wollstonecraft and father of Mary Shelley, his oeuvre is significant for both its impact on the political and social landscape of the period and its influence on his family and other literary contemporaries.
