This paper reports on the fabrication of lead zirconate titanate containing layers as a dielectric on three-dimensional polymer substrates. These layers enable the fabrication of tracking devices to visualize catheters in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during interventions. Starting with the motivation and theoretical background the functionality of MRI markers is detailed. One of the main challenges is the reliable and repeatable application of an integrated passive layer having a sufficient permittivity on a cylindrical polymer surface. A technology based on aerosol deposition is presented on two-dimensional substrates. The layer properties are examined and the results are applied to three-dimensional cylindrical substrates.
