Narayana Medical College runs a hospital, which is a tertiary care referral center for the entire district of Nellore (recently renamed as Amarjeevi Potti Sri Ramullu Nellore). The hospital's stroke services provide comprehensive care, from intravenous thrombolysis, rehabilative physiotherapy, public education, to long-term clinical follow-up.

Our medical college provides education to the general public and health professionals in the region. December 4, 2010, our department of neurology held a one-day workshop ‘Acute Ischemic Stroke and the Role of Cerebrovascular Ultrasonography’, attended by approximately 70 delegates including practicing neurologists and neurology trainees from all over Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states. The resource people for this workshop were Professor Subash Kaul (ex-president of the Indian Stroke Association) and Associate Professor Vijay Sharma (Singapore). Faculty members demonstrated the techniques of cerebrovascular ultrasonography on healthy volunteers. Delegates were provided with ample opportunity for hands-on training under the able guidance of experts. The workshop day was a success and we expect an enhancement to the standards of care for our stroke patients. We are confident that the benefits derived from this educational activity would serve to further strengthen the development of stroke neurology in the region.

The authors would like to thank all delegates, invited speakers, hospital administration as well as the organizing committee who made this workshop a success. Finally, we would like to specially thank the Abbott knowledge academy for their financial support in the organization of this meeting.
