Abstract

As collection programmes are now being established to manage household hazardous waste in the UK, it has become increasingly apparent that there is an urgent need for clear and consistent definitions. Also, from an assessment of definitions in current use in North America and Europe, it is evident that definitions are likely to be needed at a number of levels. This paper reviews current practice and offers some guidance on the development of definitions in the UK.
