The Taronga Conservation Society Australia (TCSA) has developed guidelines for the management of Nepalese red panda Ailurus fulgens fulgens before, and after, the birth of cubs. These procedures involve minimizing disturbances to the dam 2 weeks before the birth date, installing video cameras within the nestbox to monitor the behaviour and health of the dam and cub(s) remotely, and allowing adequate time after the birth for the dam to bond with her offspring. Since the implementation of these practices the TCSA has not had any instances of stress-related mismothering when breeding this species.
