Seven G. Terzian is an Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning and Coordinator of the Social Foundations of Education Masters and Doctoral programs at the University of Florida. He presented an early version of this essay at the History of Education Society's 2003 annual meeting in Evanston, IL.
