    Scott Burris, J.D., is the James E. Beasley Professor of Law at the Beasley School of Law of Temple University and Associate Director of the Center for Law and the Public's Health at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins Universities.

    Ichiro Kawachi, M.D., Ph.D., is Associate Professor, and the Director of the Harvard Center for Society and Health, at the Harvard School of Public Health. Kawachi was the co-editor (with Lisa Berkman) of the first textbook on Social Epidemiology (Oxford University Press, 2000). He is Senior Editor of the journal Social Science & Medicine.

    Austin Sarat, Ph.D., J.D., is the William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Jurisprudence and Political Science at Amherst College and President of the Association for the Study of Law, Culture, and the Humanities. He is the author or editor of more than thirty books, including Law's Violence; The Killing State; Pain, Death, and the Law; and When the State Kills: Capital Punishment and the American Condition.
