Abstract

Abstract: Techniques have recently beome available to isolate and grow mesenchymal progenitors and to manipulate their growth under defined in vitro culture conditions. As a result mesenchymal stem cells can be rapidly expanded to numbers that are required for clinical application. This has allowed the clinical testing of culture-expanded MSCs in the context of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In this paper we discuss the role of MSCs in hematopoietic engraftment after transplantation.
