SUMMARY
The evolution and work of a team of GPs, therapists and counsellors in an Inner City GP practice is described with particular reference to the nature of the transference in this setting. It is suggested that there is a dual transference - to the GP and to the therapist - and that an understanding of some patients’ response to this triangular configuration both needs to be worked with and also adds a richness and effectiveness to the work which is to the benefit of the patient and satisfaction of the worker. This is an alternative viewpoint to that expressed by Hoag (1992) about work in this setting.
