Robert Harmon, author of numerous books related to a wide range of interest for scholars, teachers, collectors, and readers with general interest in the works of John Steinbeck, now brings us two new extremely valuable works, which provide further depth to the field of Steinbeck studies.

Steinbeck First Edition Book Covers: An Illustrated Guide presents fifty-six beautifully reproduced full color images of first editions by or about Steinbeck, plus title pages and dust jackets for some works. Details of each book are identified following the section of images, along with Harmon's commentary. A later section lists the book cover designers, followed by a bibliography of Harmon's sources. Harmon's introduction offers sound advice for collectors in identifying genuine first editions.

Steinbeck Review Index compiles all articles published in the journal and its predecessors, Steinbeck Studies and Steinbeck Review and Steinbeck Studies from inception through Fall 2009. The organization is by author, subject, reviews, and title. It revises and updates Harmon's previous indexes of these journals.

Any serious student of John Steinbeck will want to acquire these limited edition publications. Both editions are currently available free by contacting the author at bharm@pacbell.net.

Greta Manville writes mystery and suspense novels in Arizona. She is a former Steinbeck Fellow at San Jose State University and compiled and updates the online secondary bibliography available at http://www.steinbeck.sjsu.edu.
