ABSTRACT  Few articles have been written applying current methodologies and innovative techniques to teaching literature to the advanced student. This article presents a successful method for individualizing the study of a literary text. It emphasizes the need to continue to improve upon and develop the four skills, while deemphasizing the traditional role of literary texts as a vehicle for acquiring critical literary skills. Students progress into more advanced stages of language learning while being exposed to literature–an important cultural heritage of the target language which must not be neglected.
