On Training TAs: Do We Know What They Want and Need?

ABSTRACT: A survey of 303 teaching assistants and faculty about their attitudes toward TA training revealed definite priorities, some agreement, and certain differences in the respondents' perceptions. There was widespread agreement that such training should be very practical in nature, but there was less agreement among the respondent groups about low-priority needs. Furthermore, the concerns of native speakers differed from those of non-native speakers, and the responses of older, experienced faculty and TAs differed from those of younger respondents.
