Abstract

ABSTRACT  Teachers must make quick, automatic, and conscious decisions in the classroom in order to maintain control and create an optimal environment for learning. The Department of Teaching and Learning at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University developed a program that uses technology to help give preservice teachers these necessary skills prior to entering the classroom. The program examined problems that student teachers had encountered in their practice teaching experiences and developed a series of learning experiences using videotapes, computer simulations, and videodiscs. The preservice teachers were enthusiastic about the program, and through observations it was determined that the experiences had developed their self-confidence and effectiveness as teachers.
