This article reports the initial results of a survey based upon a questionnaire which appeared in the December 1987 Foreign Language Annals. The authors report on the demographics of the respondent foreign language teaching professionals, including their work experience, area and gender based differences among them, and the number, identity and frequency of the foreign languages they teach. Foreign language teaching professionals are compared to the teaching profession in general with respect to their assessments of their profession and their careers.
