  1. Note: Change over time was only observed in requests for specific products and services, specifically in retail and food service encounters. For that reason, other types of requests are excluded from the analysis here. Excluded from Table 3 are requests for information (e.g., ¿Sabes X?, ‘Do you know X?’; ¿Dónde está X?, ‘Where is X?’) and situations in which a verbal request was not present (e.g., a service provider preempted a request by providing the service directly). Due to the exclusion of those data, the total number of requests shown in Table 3 does not equal the total number of service encounters recorded by students.
