This case study investigates an 8-year-old dog with a history of a swelling on the right elbow.

An 8-year-old, female spayed, crossbreed dog was presented with multiple hard, subcutaneous masses that had reportedly developed over the course of at least one month. One was present on the right lateral elbow as shown in Fig 1. Two more, similar masses were present on the right distal hind limb – one in the hock region, just caudal to the calcaneus, and one caudal to the metatarsophalangeal joint.

Figure 1.

On physical examination, the dog was bright, in good body condition, and showed no evidence of lameness. Body temperature was 38°C, and apart from the elbow mass, no other physical abnormalities were detected. Haematological and serum biochemical profiles were normal.
