The data from Elias and colleagues provide insight into an important mechanism, arterial stiffness, underlying the resistance of blood pressure to antihypertensive medication. We agree that knowledge of how to (and perhaps whether to) unstiffen arteries could be a valuable asset in our efforts to control blood pressure more effectively. Further research in this vital area is certainly needed, and welcome.
