Cover Caption: A Germ Cell-Specific AGO in Maize (page C1)

Article first published online: 26 OCT 2014 | DOI: 10.1111/jipb.12292

Argonaute (AGO) proteins are core factors of the RNA-induced silencing complex that guides sRNAs to their target genes. In this issue (pp. 1042–1052), Zhai et al. studied AGOs expressed in maize reproductive tissues, and identified the ZmAGO18b as a member highly accumulated in meiotic microsporocytes, suggesting its role in cell-type specific gene silencing.
