Abstract

Loss (bleaching) of symbiotic dinoflagellates (genus Symbiodinium) from the sea anemone Aiptasia pallida caused by elevated temperatures or disruption of symbiont photosynthesis can be restored through exposure to axenic Symbiodinium cultures (top part of figure; Symbiodinium appear red due to chlorophyll autofluorescence under blue light).
