Editor's note: The paper Electromagnetic Interference of Avalanche Transceivers with Cardiac Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators by Roser et al. generated lively discussion between one of the reviewers (an engineer who is very familiar with cardiac implantable electrical devices—CIEDs) and the authors. Essentially, the authors contend that currently available avalanche transceivers are safe when used as advised in their paper, while the engineer wishes there were more engineering information and guidance for subsequent devices. Both are correct. PACE does publish relevant engineering papers, but the editor believes that the clinical message of the Roser paper stands on its own. Subsequent related engineering commentary or manuscripts would be considered.
