Transgenic M. oryzae Guy11 strains expressing AVR1-CO39:mRFP, AVR1-CO391-22:mRFP or mRFP or carrying the empty pDL2 vector were spray-inoculated on three week old plants of rice cultivar CO39 (Pi-CO39) and Maratelli (pi-Co39). Symptoms were analysed 7 days post inoculation (dpi) to determine if the plants were resistant (R) or susceptible (S) to the inoculated strain. Identical results were obtained in three independent inoculation experiments using each time three independent transgenic lines for each construct. Photos show typical symptoms at 7 dpi.
