Abstract

Fipronil has remained an important tool in flea treatment and control since its introduction in the UK; however, controversy remains about its classification, efficacy and possible resistance in the face of strong flea challenge in recent years. Few drugs produce such emotive debate over these issues as fipronil. This article reviews the history, efficacy and toxicity of this drug, and discusses the possibility of flea resistance.
