Idiopathic hypercalcaemia in cats: diagnostic approach and therapy



Idiopathic hypercalcemia (IHC) in cats has become increasingly recognised since 1990 as a relatively common finding in biochemistry profiles. It is still unknown if increased intestinal calcium absorption, increased bone resorption, or decreased renal calcium excretion plays the main role in the development of the ionised hypercalcemia in this syndrome. This article describes two cases of IHC and provides an in depth discussion on diagnostic approach and treatment.
