Resistance to Acculturation and Assimilation in an Indian Pueblo


  • This is a preliminary report on one aspect of a research project on culture change now in progress at Tewa Village, First Mesa, Hopi, Arizona. The study is being conducted with the aid of a Social Science Research Council pre-doctoral fellowship, under the sponsorship of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, University of California, Los Angeles. This paper is based on four months of field work; the study will continue for another eight months.
