Abstract

In this lesson plan, students develop a connection to literature by writing or dictating an adventure had at home with a stuffed animal representing the book character Corduroy. Children also engage in a study of Corduroy author Don Freeman. The lesson provides a model of reflection for students as they listen to stories, begin to read them, and develop their own writing. It also provides a home-school connection, as parents partner in their child's adventure with Corduroy. The author's students and their parents have enjoyed this project, which generates over 120 different written adventures by the end of the school year.

The lesson plan is further explicated at Read Write Think; see http:www.readwritethink.orglessonslesson_view.aspid30.
