In the past 15 years, many of the mechanisms underlying the molecularorigins of cancer have been uncovered, and a clear picture of the role ofoncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in carcinogenesis has developed. Thisarticle reviews the mechanisms by which oncogenes and tumor suppressorgenes participate in the creation of tumors.
