The metastable austenitic steels AISI 304, 321 and 348 are examined in the temperature range −60 °C ≤ T ≤ AT. The α′-martensite formation corresponds to the estimated austenite stability. Tensile and fatigue experiments reveal that its influence on the mechanical behavior is strongest for steel AISI 304, which is underlined by an analysis of cyclic deformation curves and a microhardness evaluation.
