A correct statistical-thermodynamic modeling for description of ordering in nonstoichiometric intermetallic B2-, and L12-phases can be very helpful for design of new functional materials. The basic concept of presented review includes the evaluation of such characteristics of the intermetallic materials as the virtual critical temperatures of order-disorder transformations, pair-wise interaction and defect formation energies, thermodynamic activities and defect concentrations, and also descriptions of long-ranged and short-ranged atomic correlations in the crystal lattice.
