The study focuses on the effect of grain refining by C, SiC, AlSr10, and AlTi5B1 as well as the cast thickness of the strips on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an AZ31B alloy casted in a DSC process. The addition of grain refiners and the reduction of the cast strip thickness results in a significant reduction of the grain size and an improvement of the mechanical properties.
