Ordered microporous carbon material doped with nitrogen is synthesized by using a nanocasting process using acrylonitrile and propylene as precursors and Na–Y zeolite as a scaffold. The material displayed large gravimetric capacitance (340 F g–1) in an aqueous medium, and showed good cycleability, beyond 10 000 cycles. The figure shows pore volume as a function of pore size in the templated carbon compared to that in commercial activated carbon.
