A novel kind of rattle-type hollow magnetic mesoporous sphere with Fe3O4 particles encapsulated in the cores of mesoporous silica microspheres has been fabricated. The storage and release of ibuprofen, as a typical example, is demonstrated. Such a material has the merits of both enhanced drug-loading capacity and significant magnetization strength and is expected to be applied to targeted drug delivery.
