A series of functionalized thieno[3,2-b]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[2,3-d]thiophene derivatives composed of a tetrathienoacene core and symmetrically substituted benzene, biphenyl, and naphthalene are synthesized and fully characterized. The crystal structure of one of these derivatives, 1a, (see inset of the figure) shows π−π stacking and intermolecular S···S contacts. Field-effect transistors based on 1a demonstrated high performances with a mobility of 0.14 cm2 V−1 s−1 and an on/off ratio up to 106.
