Organic-layer-coated TiO2 nanoparticles produce a transparent solution in n-butanol and improve the degree of infiltration, and consequently, minimize the volume contraction during thermal calcinations of a colloidal template within an inverse-opal structure. A compact and ordered TiO2 inverse-opal photoelectrode results in an enhanced photo-conversion efficiency for dye-sensitized solar cells, up to 3.47% under air mass 1.5 illumination.
