Photochromic molecular glasses can be applied in a controlled manner to efficiently create surface relief nanostructures. In a series of synthesized azobenzene-containing molecular glasses SRGs with tunable modulation heights of more than 600 nm are obtained by holographic methods. These nanostructures are stable enough to be transferred to the surface of thermoplastic polymers via common replica/imprinting procedures.
