Controllable phase-transition temperature of a thermosensitive polymer can be achieved by the incorporation of metal ions (Ag+, Cu2+, Hg2+). The nature of the ions does not only affect the gel-to-solid phase transition temperature, but the electro-reduced metallic nanoclusters in the polymers also yield matrices with temperature-switchable conductivity and temperature-dependent electrocatalytic behavior.
