Microbeads with porous walls: uniform microbeads with a controllable hollow interior and porous wall (see figure) are fabricated using a fluidic device with three flow channels. The pore structure can be enlarged by employing emulsion templating in combination with fast solvent evaporation. These microbeads can be used as protective carriers for encapsulating a variety of cosmetics, drugs, and dyes, as well as living cells.
