Three distinct formation mechanisms are determined for delayed electroluminescence (EL): type-I (trapped-charge-induced delayed EL), type-II (triplet–triplet-annihilation (TTA)-induced delayed EL), and type-III (mobile-charge-induced delayed EL). Among these three scenarios, type-II systems are found to give the highest OLED EL efficiency, a phenomenon attributed to the role of TTA in converting triplet excitons into additional singlet excitons.
