Drug and antidote pair: Although the 29-base-long thrombin binding aptamer (TBA29) has no known enzymatic inhibitory function toward thrombin-mediated coagulation, TBA29 conjugated gold nanoparticles (TBA29-Au NPs) are found possessing ultrahigh anticoagulant potency—two orders of magnitude higher than that of free TBA29—as a result of multivalent interactions and steric blocking effects.
