Silver filament formation results in bulk resistive switching in silver nanowire-polystyrene composites. Below the switching voltage, the percolation pathway (blue nanowires) is dominated by interparticle contacts. Above the switching voltage, metallic filaments of silver atoms (shown in red) form between nanowires, resulting in extension of the electrical percolation network within the composite and decreasing its macroscopic resistance.
