Circular nano-magnets with special beveled edge geometry are fabricated by means of silica nanosphere lithography and subsequent ion etching to enhance the nucleation of the vortex phase. The moderate shrinking of the spheres during etching is directly translated to the nanomagnets and therefore forming an optimal bevel angle in order to nucleate magnetic vortices in patterned nano-magnets. This is a key issue to increase magnetic data storage density.
