A hollow core, magnetic and meso­porous double-shell nanostructure is manufactured using a novel in situ decomposition/reduction approach. The formed nanostructures are aminated by silanization for further covalent conjugation to rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RBITC) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains, to construct a multifunctional platform for bioimaging and anticancer drug delivery.
