The performance of bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is strongly correlated with the nanoscale structure of the active layer. This paper highlights the role of residual solvent and solvent additives on PCBM diffusion and their effects on morphological stability. The table of contents figure shows PCBM agglomerations in P3HT/PCBM BHJ layer cast from ortho-dichlorobenzene after heat treatment. Colored “halos” around the agglomerates are PCBM-depleted regions.
