Binary colloidal monolayers are prepared using a Langmuir trough. The stoichiometric composition of the large and small particles at the interface can be precisely adjusted to gain control over the occupation of the interstitial sites with small colloids. Binary 2D crystals with LS2, LS6, and LS9 composition are thus obtained for a wide range of size ratios over areas only limited by the trough dimensions.
