Spincoating of blends of a high molecular weight polymer with fullerene causes variations of the rate of solvent removal, and influences nanostructure formation. Electron tomography imaging of the 3D nanostructure of the blends close to and far from the center of rotation reveal considerable variations, accounting for the variation of photocurrent generation across spincoated layers, and the presence of “champion cells”.
