Substrate heating and post-annealing techniques are used to control the orientation of dye molecules in thermally vacuum-deposited planar heterojunction merocyanine/C60 solar cells. Favorable molecular orientation at the heterointerface substantially improves the exciton dissociation efficiency resulting in up to 100% improvement of the fill factor.
